When a flood occurs at your home or business, it is critical that you act quickly to prevent further damage to the building and/or contents. Since 1997, First Response Restorations has been performing flood cleanup in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and Guelph for residential, commercial and industrial customers. Our team of property restoration specialists is certified and fully trained to restore and repair your property following water loss/water damage.
The following is a general outline of what needs to be completed:
Clean water less than 24 hours old.
Minor contamination of water or clean water after 24 hours.
Make sure there are no safety hazards – electrical hazards, falling ceiling material, etc.
Turn off the water supply line at the source
Extract all standing water
Remove all non-affected items to a safe, dry area – artwork, electronics, books, etc.
Detach the carpet, if any, to facilitate removal of the under pad – remove the under pad
Reattach the carpet for drying
Block up all remaining content items to prevent, or minimize, further damage
Clean and disinfect the concrete or wood subfloor
Set up high-volume air movers and dehumidification
Notify your insurance broker
Monitor drying progress – add or remove equipment as needed
After drying is completed, assess the extent of damage.
The above information is to be used as a guideline only. Every situation is unique and needs to be addressed differently. If water is not dried quickly and completely, secondary issues may develop such as mould growth, unpleasant odours, poor air quality and further building damage. First Response Restorations uses several tools to ensure that the building is completely dry. We may use moisture probes, non-invasive moisture meters, relative humidity meters, thermal imaging cameras or a combination of all. We guarantee your space and its contents will be dry when we are finished.
